Malaysia Student Pass

Malaysia Student Pass for International Students

The Malaysia Student Pass is the official immigration document issued to foreign nationals enrolled in a full-time academic programme at a Malaysian university, college, or registered educational institution. It is not the same as the Malaysia eVisa and cannot be obtained independently of your institution.

Unlike tourist or business eVisas, the Student Pass application is handled by your Malaysian educational institution on your behalf through the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) system. The pass is linked directly to your course duration and must be renewed if your study period is extended.

How the Malaysia Student Pass Process Works

The Student Pass process involves your institution and Malaysian immigration. Here is what to expect from initial acceptance to arrival.

01
Receive Offer Letter

Obtain a formal offer letter from your enrolled Malaysian institution confirming your acceptance into a full-time programme.

02
EMGS Pre-Arrival Approval

Your institution submits your Student Pass application to EMGS. You will receive a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) once cleared.

03
Enter Malaysia on VAL

Travel to Malaysia using your Visa Approval Letter. You will be issued a Social Visit Pass (Student) on arrival valid for 30 to 90 days.

04
Convert to Student Pass

After arrival, your institution assists with converting the Social Visit Pass into a full Student Pass through the immigration office.
